It was around 2014 when we become friends on facebook with Raoul Dikka, the multi-instrumental songwriter who was in Malang and haven't yet concepted Low Pink into this world. All he had was a guitar, a mic, a mini drumset made for 7 year old children and a recording software to make tons of demos and scraps that are boundless to genres. He's the kind of guy who locks himself in a room to write and record everything he's currently into and all that experience has sharpen his sensibilities towards musical writing. "Hi" we chat. And a true love story had just begun.
Phases EP was his charming stance on psych pop that was written, performed and produced by himself under his moniker Low Pink, which then recruiting members like Ryoichi Watanabe on guitar, Bondan Rahadian Pratama on bass and Ody Panggabean on drums to fill in live. Out on 2016, the experiences in Phases EP are rather sensoric through effects like delay, reverb and chorus.
The EP kicks in with a laidback drum fading in slowly, welcomed with twangy guitars not long after as to give us hints on what's coming. "Phases" is written out of one's personal complexity of becoming someone he really wanted to be. "I'm out of luck but not out of life / Hope you wouldn't see all the worst of me" he sings. As for "I Feel Like My Life Stops" and "You", he seems to reassure himself on this stage of confusion. Delivered in neo-psychedelic sounds, Phases EP is dynamic, fluid and accurate.
